Texas Southern University office of Career Services hosts students to spring 2016 Résumé Boot Camp

Each year the office of Cooperative education and placements services hosts students to their annual resume boot camp session where employers and staff come together to help students work on their resumes, cover letter and also get them prepared for the job market.

This year the main focus was to help students with tools and tips on creating a successful résumé, how to prepare for a confident interview and interface with industry career professionals

 

The scheduled date was on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, starting from 10:00am – 4:00pm in the Thornton M. Fairchild Bldg. Rms. 170 and 171, located on the campus of Texas Southern University.

 

“Finding a job after school can be very stressful, but with the help of career services I was able to get a job placement before graduation,” Johnson said.

Flyers, posters, emails and other forms of advertisement was sent out to students to take advantage of this great opportunity.

Some students took it upon themselves to get involved with this event. Knowing it was a school day and some students would not make it on time for the event.

Staff members also gave an opportunity to those students to set up an appointment to come to their office located in the Fairchild building where they would still have time to help them with all the tools they need.

Blessing who has been a staff at career services sand has been involved with the resume boot camp for years shares her experience.

“I have been working here for the past 3 years and it’s always a great opportunity to get to network with industry professionals who are always ready to help,” Blessing said.

Representatives from different companies such as Methodist hospital, Memorial Herman, Plush services, MD Anderson, Holiday Inn, Metro, Double tree and others just to mention a few had openings that students could take advantage of applying for jobs.

Dr. Antoinette Roberson, the director for career services was pleased on the outcome of students who took advantage of today’s boot camp and participated in it.
